Women's Division
Women’s Division
It was the women of San Gabriel who started the Chamber of Commerce. They were the wives of the City Councilmen and other officials of the city. They saw the need to promote the City after it was incorporated in 1913 - but a few years later, the Chamber became an all-male group.Today's Women's Division was organized in 1936 as a support group for the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce. The group has acted as official hostesses for many years, sponsored civic improvement projects, and worked to coordinate the interests of the business and residential members of the community. The Women's Division works to make San Gabriel a better place to live, work and play.
The purpose of the Women's Division of the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce shall be to:
- Promote and/or coordinate civic improvement projects
- Survey timely issues and problems which affect the general welfare of the community
- Disseminate such information to the members of the Division as an adjunct to the Chamber work
